BLOGMAS DAY 20: Books I’ve been meaning to buy but haven’t .. yet!

Hello friends and welcome back to the comforts of my haunted library!

Despite already owning a metric fuck-ton of books, would you believe me if I told you I had just as many books that I haven’t bought and/or need to buy? Well believe it because there are a LOT of books on my radar that I still have yet to buy. Will I ever read them all before I die? I dunno. Challenge accepted I guess!

So because I love lists so damn much, I’m going to break down the top 8 (random number cause why not?) books I still have yet to buy!

Grab your coffees or whatever your drink of choice is, get on the level, and lets go!

The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller

This book was fucking perfection. I couldn’t get into Tricia’s Daughter of the Pirate King series (no offense but I just am not a fan of pirate fiction? Which is odd because I love Pirates of the Caribbean. I just don’t like reading about it?) so I was super reluctant to jump on this book. I’m glad I took the chance and listened to this on audio because it was SO FUCKING GOOD. Everything about it was *chefs kiss*.

So it’s been over a year since I listened to this book and I STILL have not bought a copy for my shelves. This is so unlike me. I think I was waiting for a Fairyloot copy to get thrown up in a buy/sell/trade group. It’s purple, my favourite colour. I obviously need it. I think this year I’m just going to bite the bullet and buy a regular copy of it. I want to re-read it so bad!

Vicious by V.E. Schwab

I know. For shame! Honestly this book is literally everything I would love and I have not bought it yet. I don’t know why. I don’t know what I’m waiting for, but it just hasn’t happened and I need it to happen.

I need to read more V.E Schwab. I loved her middle grade series but I haven’t ventured into her adult stuff yet. I do own ADSOM so I may start with that but I am DYING for Vicious.

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

Anyone who knows me, knows how much of a simp I am for Grady Hendrix. I absolutely love his dark and spooky writing that always leaves me with chills! I started listening to The Final Girl Support Group on Audible, but like most of Grady’s books there is a lot of visual media within the book that makes it hard to understand on audio.

I may be waiting for the price on this one to drop. I love books and stuff but I cannot justify the 40 dollars for one book. Sorry Grady. Life is scary expensive. Please write a horror about that.

The Octunnumi Fosbit Files Prologue by Trevor Alan Foris

This book came on my radar in early spring 2021. It was so mysterious I couldn’t even tell you what it’s about. I only know bits and pieces from the reviews left on Goodreads and it only made me want this book even more.

It’s mysterious and odd. I desperately need it in my collection.

Feather by Olivia Wildenstein

Feather is an adult romance Romeo & Juliet retelling with Mafia men and angels. What’s not to want?! Feather follows Leigh, an angel who has one month left to earn her missing feathers. She embarks to Paris on her latest project, 25-year old Jarod Adler, the baddest of boys, a triple sinner and leader of the Parisian Mafia.

Leigh has to get Jarod to complete one random act of kindness in order for her get her feathers needed to ascend into Elysium, the land of angels. In a twist of events, Jarod’s triple threat attitude and behaviors actually cause Leigh to lose feathers. While she’s determined to save him, he’s determined to destroy her. Enemies to Lovers much? I need.

A Cosmology of Monsters by Shaun Hamill

This book won the Goodreads Choice award for Best Horror in 2019 and honestly ever since I saw the cover when I worked at Chapters I was instantly in love with it. Noah sees monsters and so does his whole family. They react to them differently, his father built a shrine that doubles as a haunted house, his mother refutes the existence of monsters, and his sister is too dramatic or vulnerable to admit to seeing anything.

Please keep in mind this is an adult horror with triggering content. Trigger warnings include: depression, anxiety, suicide (this is a huge theme that features suicide notes in detail and is a major portion of the story), statutory rape, child abuse, physical abuse, death of a loved one (suicide, cancer), kidnapping, neglect, bigotry and verbal abuse toward an LGBT character (not condoned, but used as part of a plot progression), murder, taboo sexual content, adultery, gore, violence, etc) thanks to this Goodreads user for listing all of the triggers in this book in their review.

The River Has Teeth by Erica Waters

Truth be told, I still haven’t finished this book yet but not for lack of trying! I was listening to this via Scribd but then cancelled my membership. Luckily I had an eARC of this dark and magical story so I just need to find my place again and finish the last 20% or so!

I’m hoping to find this gorgeous book under my Christmas tree this year as well as Erica’s other book: Ghost Wood Song.

A Universe of Wishes: A We Need a Diverse Books Anthology

A book I think everyone needs to add to their shelves. This is an anthology of fifteen young adult fantasy and diverse stories by OwnVoices authors. Also, hi, that cover is miraculous.

Authors featured: Samira Ahmed, Libba Bray, Dhonielle Clayton, Zoraida Córdova, Tessa Gratton, Kwame Mbalia, Anna-Marie McLemore, Tochi Onyebuchi, Mark Oshiro, Natalie C. Parker, Rebecca Roanhorse, Victoria Schwab, Tara Sim, Nic Stone,

This list is just scratching the surface on the books I want to buy to complete my dream library. Yes, it does in fact include floor to ceiling shelves and rolling ladders. I blame Disney for the unrealistic library expectations it set for young readers.

I hope you all found some new books to add to your TBR, if you’ve read any of the books listed here let me know what you thought of them in the comments!

Until next blog,
